Tips for Teaching Children Healthy Eating

Teaching your kids to eat healthy from young age is important to keep them healthy while they grow, here some tips on how to do it.

1- Set a good example.

  • Include vegetable dish always with every meal when preparing family meal.
  • Include different type of fruits and vegetables in your meat dish.
  • make it a common practice to have a piece of fruit after each meal, best practice is to prepare plate of mixed fruits cut into small pieces so thy can try.

2- Take a small step.

Take note of your children taste so you can serve them what they like to eat while adding new type of food & fruits so they can try. for example when trying to introduce salad to your children, try with one or two type of vegetables first for example some lattice first.

3- Be creative.

Try different ways of preparing food that makes it more appealing to children. for example you can use plastic mold to shape how food is put on the plate, or cut fruits into different shapes and sizes. Eating vegetables with dips is a good approach to enhance the the taste and make it interesting to eat vegetables.

4- Family fun time.

Shopping for groceries is a good opportunity to introduce to your children new food. and educate them about healthy food and why it is important to eat healthy. Let your children select some of the food they like to eat.

5- Cook together.

Let your children help with food preparation, start with letting them wash vegetables and fruits and then cutting them. Ask your children what they like to eat, this way you will force them to think about their food and give it some importance.
